The first electrically lit public building in Toronto was a theatre, the Princess Theatre, built in 1895. The Princess stood on the south side of King St. West until it was torn down to make way for the extension of University Ave. from King to Front.
Mirvish Productions is a member of the Professional Association of Canadian Theatres and engages - under the terms of the Canadian Theatre Agreement - professional artists who are members of the Canadian Actors' Equity Association.
Open audition notices for all our productions are posted with the Canadian Actors' Equity Association (CAEA). Equity will email audition notices, free of charge, to its members. If you are an Equity member, you may register for this service at www.caea.com
Local audition notices are also posted at the Performing Arts Desk of the Metro Toronto Reference Library, 789 Yonge Street (Bloor and Yonge), 5th floor, and online at the library's website, at www.tpl.ca/auditions. The Performing Arts Desk also keeps scripts - both published and unpublished - for upcoming local productions on reserve, to be read in the library, and maintains a blog on theatre topics of interest to the performing community.
Theatre Ontario also maintains a notice board listing auditions, jobs, classes, workshops, volunteering opportunities and current productions in Ontario. This information is not available online or by phone, but may be viewed at the Theatre Ontario offices at 215 Spadina Ave., Suite 210, Toronto, between the hours of 9 am and 5 pm Monday to Friday.
